3 ways to increase advertising revenue in gaming apps – in association with Vserv

With a predicted $3.9billion increase in in-app advertising revenue by 2015 and in-app gaming markets expanding rapidly, it’s a good time to consider how to optimise your gaming app revenue streams.

Apps World caught up with Ashay Padwal co-founder and CTO of Vserv, a leading mobile ad, mobile advertising and publishing network for mobile developers, publishers and advertisers, to get some valuable insider insight.

Ashay believes the in-app gaming market has the potential to be one of the most lucrative for developers, and suggest that developers are making a shift away from the initial app purchase as their source of revenue, moving towards more sophisticated in-app monetisation strategies.

“Gaming is one of the key drivers for the multitudes of people looking for free content,” he says. “But in order to get a return on investment it’s important to understand how the ecosystem is working, and how developers are developing apps. Developers need to monetise gaming apps, and choosing the right ad networking partner is an important step in this process.” (more…)

Technology advances including broadband internet and mobile have reached critical mass, the continuous growth of smartphone penetration worldwide (up by 73% in Q2 2011 according to Canalys) and the ever increasing development of new apps have paved the way for this shift towards mobile payments. In the UK alone, one in three adults now uses a smartphone according to the latest report by telecoms regulator Ofcom. So why has the time come for Marketers and Retailers to be ready for Mobile Payments?

MobileApps.com looks to offer a greater reach and a fairer deal for apps developers

With some of the largest app players halting their in-app sales after new Apple guidelines were re-enforced this week, does Apple run the risk of causing damage to the app start up industry before it even takes off?

Apple, who current takes 30% commission from all digital content bought through iOS apps have this week flagged up their new guidelines (released in February 2011) which requires publishers and retailers to remove all links to their own websites to prevent potential in-app sales taking place outside of the app, to protect Apple’s commission results. Why Asia is set to become an App Hotspot

This week saw the announcement from the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) that a huge S$15 million (USD $12.22 million) is to be set aside for encouraging businesses to develop mobile apps for the service sector.

If that wasn’t a large enough incentive for businesses to get mobile, Singapore is now one of the most mobile-connected countries in the world, currently there are 2.4 million more mobile subscriptions than there are people. It is the predicted future global app hotspot.

According to market research firm, Nielsen this explosion of connectivity in Singapore is said to be down to the popularity of the iPhone and iPad and the increasing availability of cheaper mobile internet tariffs. An indication of the integration of mobile app devices into Singaporean culture is the new initiative from its Defense Ministry to distribute 8,000 iPad 2s to its soldiers to allow them to chat with colleagues and record outfield exercises. Singapore really is a the region for mobile investment in Asia. (more…)
