The 6 Biggest Mobile App Trends For 2012 from Logia Group

2011 was an interesting year for the mobile industry to say the least. From the rebirth of the Windows 7 Mobile platform to apps such as WhatsApp, and Viber shattering the long running rule of SMS and calling costs.

This year also brought with it a host of new devices in our ever changing mobile market. From the launch of the iPad 2 to the release of Samsung’s Galaxy S2, the thinner, faster, brighter trend continued very much as expected.

To pinpoint one of the biggest shifts in mobile over 2011, it would have to be the surge of new tablets.  The number of mobile broadband-enabled tablets (e.g., Apple iPad, Motorola Xoom, BlackBerry PlayBook, HP TouchPad, etc…) sold in the second quarter versus the first quarter jumped 80%, with 14 million tablets sold worldwide in Q2, 2011.

Now is the perfect time to look ahead into the horizon of 2012 and consider a few upcoming trends of the mobile sector. (more…)

Smart connections with the #AppsWorld Africa TweetWall-extra

The organisers of Social Media World Forum & Apps World Africa have teamed up with Nokia to deliver a new and attractive way for attendees to connect with each other.

To start with, they’ve unveiled their TwitterWall design ahead of the Cape Town show next week, on 1-2 June. This will be projected onto a huge screen inside the conference, pulling in all tweets around the two show hashtags.

This means anyone tweeting into the #SMWF and #AppsWorld hashtags will see their tweet blown up to massive proportions.

However, as part of their efforts to ensure that delegates are able to make valuable connections with the right people across the apps and social media industries, the organisers have made available a raft of real-time statistics and info-graphics displaying information on the shows’ top tweeters, their networks, their connections, reach and influence.
